A Snake on the Front Porch

John once said, “There was a time Becca would kill an artificial plant.”

I took a gamble this week. I began making content about Corrie’s gardens and gardening on TikTok. I hope to share her gardens, what I’ve learned, and how the act of care for plants and gardens saved my life.

Without the gardens, I don’t know where I’d be now because they’ve helped me when I felt disconnected from others, misunderstood, and offer confidence in my ability to give life in another way.

During the past few years, some students of mine have encouraged me to create content. I’ve been hesitant because, while I do write, I’m a private person. I enjoy life in the country where I can unmask, as a neurodivergent.

The TikTok I made today is simple, and hopefully shows I still possess a sense of humor. This is a black snake, for those who don’t know. They’re great for the environment because they eat other snakes, along with rats and mice.

  1. Your gardens are very pretty. We have a vegetable garden takes our minds off things and it feeds us well.

    1. Thank you! I have planted tomatoes and some peppers. I also have a few blueberry and strawberry plants. As I become more confident in my gardening with herbs, I plan to add more veg. I hope you guys are doing well! I’d love to see you sometime this summer!
