If TikTok Says Goodbye

The Arendelle Garden sign during the snow yesterday below the mountain.

As I sit at Corrie’s desk in her room, ice falls off the roof. It makes a slight clashing sound as it hits the side of the house.

I remember when we’d open the windows in the fall and spring to let in fresh air, and Corrie would call my name. I’d hear her mischievous giggle, which always came from her core.

Now the cat’s bell jingles in the hallway, as he hopes I will open the door to Corrie’s room where he spent much of his kitten time. Where there should be the sound of a 10-year-old girl telling me to leave her room, the wind rustles the last of the brown leaves on the trees.

The view of work on the Wall Garden last week, while still on the holiday break.

Very few enter my most private space. In fact, I never enter if I am not in the right mood, but more often, I am. I keep my work laptop and other items in Corrie’s room, so that I compartmentalize all parts of my life.

Throughout 2024, I spent a lot of time expressing the hope her memory brings, specifically through her gardens. I share what I have learned in my first three years as a beginner gardener on social media, primarily TikTok.

With the ban of TikTok pending, I look to my other social media outlets for where I might share. I’ve written on this blog for thirteen years, since my son was two.

While I stayed home with Hayes, I was a freelance writer and substitute teacher, and the nature of it changed to Corrie and gardening after her sunset.

Throughout the past two years, I have gradually turned more of grief into covering the gardens that honor the memory of our daughter, Corrie.

I want to share the photos, videos, and what I have learned through gardening to help others through gardens, grief, and relief.
