I view stories of women’s negative experiences with me, whether it’s husbands, boyfriends, or others almost daily on TikTok. During college and for two years after, I went through my own I’d prefer the bear to the man encounters.
I am fortunate with the men and boys in my life, and I’ve written about them multiple times before. (One of my personal favorite pieces is Ham Biscuits, a poem I wrote for John and our son, Hayes, a few months after Corrie died suddenly.) I’ve felt protective of them when I thought others were not on the right side of their history.
My appreciation for the men and boys in my life centers around a one little girl. Without them, I would not have found a way forward to live and strive, as Corrie dwells in heaven.
Today, I simply share some videos with my love of them, and excitement for our new tractor that arrived on Friday.
One TikTok I made dedicated to my husband after he picked up and unloaded mulch around the farm yesterday, Saturday.
The tractor arrived on Friday evening, and this, surprisingly, was my idea.
I rarely share current pictures of our son, Hayes. (Hayes is his name in writing only.) I only share pictures of him at the time Corrie was still with us. Here he drives his grandfather’s old golf cart. The top was torn off during a tornado in Feb. 2020.
I share a rare video of our son because I captured him driving for one of the first times.
I speak of the gratitude and love for my husband, John, in my career, the gardens, and earning my EdD., while I walk through the Arendelle Garden.
They say teacher turn over is high right now, and many teachers will leave the profession in five years or less. I will enter my seventh year as a full-time teacher, and my 12th year in education after I'd started as a sub and teacher assistant. I was the student in the 1990s you did not want in your classroom because I was diagnosed with ADHD and did not know how to socialize with other kids. I was due to be tested for autism, but this was considered an ostracizing experience for a child then, especially a girl. I am a third generation teacher and author of seventeen creative works.

Thank you Rebecca for sharing your men , your rocks.
As a stay at home mom, yoga has helped me compose myself in ways I never expected. I am on a weight loss journey while I attempt to parent my child the best way I know how. Join me on my path and hopefully, it'll inspire you, as well!
