Tonight, we will celebrate Corrie’s birthday with a bonfire and s’mores. Her actual ninth birthday falls on Sunday, December 10 (tomorrow) on WorldWide Candle Lighting Memorial Service. I wanted to share a reflection as I walked through Corrie’s Arendelle Garden.
The Arendelle Garden, of Corrie’s three garden, has been my greatest passion project to date. I’ve spoken more about it than my writing. While it’s not done, I plan for more pollinator gardens. This garden is the largest of the three, and is the one I’ve done almost independently with help from my husband, John, dad, and son.
Every year, I write a poem for her birthday. I haven’t been as poetic minded in the past year, simply because to write poems, you have to dig in the dark. The gardens have helped lift me to the light.
When the winter comes, I love having the lights in her garden. Some I will keep out there all winter long because it just gives that feeling of warmth and love.
Corrie was the kind of person to inspire people towards the light.
