My daughter, Corrie, asked me all last spring,
“Do you write anything about me?”
The majority of the nonfiction, memoir, and poetry I’d written dealt with autism just like the poem I’m writing now called, “A Ballad of Autism at the Pool.” I wrote about Corrie and other life experiences in poems before her death.
After a long time between publications, 2016-2020, three of my poems are scheduled for publication this year.
In February, I learned “Jeriah” and “No Words for Sinners” will be published later this year by Radical Teacher. I was happy with this announcement, but I’d also hoped one of my Corrie poems would be published.
I wanted to keep my promise to her.
An international literary journal The Deronda Review will publish “Six” this year. The editor sent me the proofs today.
I love my daughter so much for all she was and is, and all that she inspires.
